Friends of the Library
What Is Friends Of The Library?
Incorporated in 2008, the Friends of the Sunnyvale Public Library is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation whose purpose is to maintain an association of persons interested in the library and to focus public attention on library services, facilities and needs.

Mission Statement
Friends of the Sunnyvale Public Library exists to promote public knowledge and use of the Sunnyvale Public Library's resources, services, and programs; to encourage the growth and development of the library; and to strengthen and expand the appreciation of the corporation as a cultural and educational asset to the library and the community.
What Friends Do
The Friends of the Sunnyvale Public Library supports the library in ways not possible with Town of Sunnyvale budget allocations alone. The Town of Sunnyvale provides salaries, utilities and operating expenses for the Library. Additional support from Friends includes:

Provide volunteer support

Raise private funds

Support children's programs

Promote literacy and the love of books

Sponsor cultural and literacy events

Promote library advocacy in the community
Membership Information
The Friends of the Library Board meets as needed at the Doris Padgett Public Library. The annual membership meeting of the Friends of the Library is generally held in February, alongside a silent auction.
Membership is open to any individual, family, group, business or corporation interested in the objectives of the Friends. A membership year is from January 1 to December 31.

Randy Ferguson, Sunnyvale Library Board chair, serves as the Board Liaison to the Friends of the Sunnyvale Public Library.
Association of Library Trustees, Advocates, Friends and Foundations (ALTAFF)
Friends of Libraries U.S.A. (FOLUSA) and the Association for Library Trustees and Advocates (ALTA) joined forces on February 1, 2009 to become an expanded division of the American Library Association (ALA). The new organization is called the Association of Library Trustees, Advocates, Friends and Foundations (ALTAFF).
