Services

Library Cards

Library Cards are available free of charge to all U.S. citizens and legal aliens who reside in the state of Texas.  Your library card can be used to check out books, DVDs, audiobooks and periodicals.

TexShare Card Program

TexShare cards allow Sunnyvale Public Library card holders who have held their cards in good standing for six months to borrow materials directly from other libraries who participate in the program.  For more details, please visit the TexShare card website.

Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) allows Sunnyvale Public Library card holders access to materials that are not available from the Library's collection.  For more information or to make an Interlibrary Loan request, please come by the Library or call us at (972) 226-4491 during regular operating hours.

Book Drop

Library books can be returned 24 hours a day, seven days a week in the book drop located directly in front of the library.  Due to the possibility of damage, certain materials (book kits, some A/V materials) cannot be returned in the book drop; such materials are clearly marked.

Computer Workstations

Six computers with high-speed internet access are provided for one-hour sessions.  Sessions can be extended depending on demand.  Patrons must have a valid Doris Padgett Public Library card without an outstanding balance.  Children under the age of 14 must be supervised by an adult when using computers.  Computers are equipped with DVD-R drives and USB ports, and have Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher, and multiple internet browsers (Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome) installed. Printouts are $.25 per page for black and white and $.50 per page for color printing. Free guest passes for non-residents are available.

Wireless Internet Access

The Library offers free wireless (Wi-Fi) internet access.  Patrons are invited to their wireless device into the Library and connect to our network.  Please note that our public Wi-Fi connection is not password protected or encrypted. Patrons are not able to print documents through the Wi-Fi connection.

Photocopies

Sunnyvale offers a photocopier for public use which can copy documents at a cost of $.25 per page. The copier can duplicate documents of letter (8.5" x 11"), legal (8.5" x 14")  or ledger (11" x 17") size in black and white.

Periodicals

The Library currently subscribes to many magazines and newsletters.  Current magazine issues are kept in plastic binders and do not circulate.  Back issues of magazines may be checked out for up to two weeks.

Newspapers

The Library maintains subscriptions to The Dallas Morning News, The Mesquite News, USA Today and The Wall Street Journal.  Newspapers do not circulate.

Telephone Reference

Librarians will answer questions over the phone that require short, readily available factual information that does not require extensive searching or lengthy reading.

Fax Services

Patrons may send and receive faxes at the library.  The Library charges $1.00 per page to send a fax to a local number, and $1.50 per page for a long distance number.  Patrons may receive incoming faxes at the Library at the cost of $.50 per page.

Reading Lists

The Library maintains an up-to-date list of current bestsellers and award-winning books.  The Library also maintains a list of Accelerated Reader (AR) books by title, author and reading level, as well as suggested books for commonly researched topics for children.

Government Documents

The Library retains tax forms for the last 8 years.  During tax season (typically from January to April) tax forms and instruction booklets are available free at the Library on a first-come, first-served basis.
